- ASME B16.11
- The specification for forged socket weld caps and forged threaded caps is ASME B16.11.
- Small diameter pipes can be served by forged ASME B16.11 caps.
- They are among the highest grade pipe fittings because of their lovely appearance and excellent mechanical qualities.
- ASME B16.9
- The Butt Weld Caps adhere to ASME B16.9.
- They are wrought pipe fittings rather than forgings.
- There are two types of ASME B16.9 caps
- Seamless and welded.
- The Butt Weld Caps adhere to ASME B16.9.
Material Used
- Carbon Steel
- Grades: ASTM A234 WPB, A105 (for forged pipe caps)
- Applications: Used in oil & gas, power plants, and water treatment systems
- Advantages: High strength Cost-effective Suitable for high-pressure applications
- Limitations: Prone to corrosion; requires external coating or painting.
- Stainless Steel
- Grades: ASTM A403 WP304, WP316
- Applications: Widely used in food processing, pharmaceuticals, and chemical industries.
- Advantages: Excellent corrosion resistance, Aesthetic finish, Good for high-temperature and sanitary applications
- Limitations: More expensive than carbon steel.
- Alloy Steel
- Grades: ASTM A234 WP11, WP22
- Applications: High-temperature and high-pressure services such as in boilers, refineries, and power plants.
- Advantages: High tensile strength, withstands thermal and mechanical stress
- Limitations: Expensive; not ideal for corrosive environments without lining.
- Nickel Alloys

- Advantages: Corrosion-resistant Lightweight and easy to install Cost-effective for low-pressure applications

- Advantages: Excellent thermal and electrical conductivity Naturally corrosion-resistant
